Dithyramb combines the talents of two of todays most exciting and inventive performer/composers for a unique musical experience. The duos programs mix free improvisation, avant-garde new music, and reimagined classics, thrilling audiences with music that is at once new and familiar. The instrumentation of the group, Cameron on hand percussion and marimba, Tom on cello, allows for a great deal of timbral exploration, but Dithyramb is mindful of the goal of creating compelling music first and foremost
Both members of Dithyramb enjoy distinguished and adventurous careers as musicians. Tom is in demand as a chamber musician, orchestral musician, and soloist across the country, and has taught at the Peabody Conservatory, the Longy School of Music, the Yellow Barn Music Festival, and the Killington Music Festival. He frequently performs with the ensembles Concertante, Mistral, and Music from Copland House, and currently teaches at Princeton University and Temple University Preparatory. Cameron has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the North Carolina Symphony, Mallarmé Chamber Players, and the Anders Åstrand Global Percussion Network. He has taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University. Cameron and Tom met while teaching at the Governors School of North Carolina, and Dithyramb began its existence there, to great student acclaim.
